The Basics
The Purpose
Trying to find your way into the information technology field is confusing, there is no doubt about that. When you ask friends, family, or strangers on the internet about how they found their path into IT, you will hear a different story, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. That can be confusing and we understand that.
The purpose of this guide is to help you put all of the pieces together and write your own story. We will provide different perspectives and insights from IT professionals from all over the world. This will help you tailor the narrative of your story specific to you (each individual).
In 2024 and beyond, the way that the IT industry will both train and obtain new talent will begin to change and shift due to the many factors that have unfolded over the years. Ultimately, this is a great opportunity for you to shift your focus and begin to develop a new path that you will feel confident about.
By the time you reach the end of this guide you will not only have the knowledge and understanding of what it takes to work in Information Technology, you will also have the confidence in knowing what it takes to be successful.
No Bullshit - Vendor Agnostic: Explained
The reason we want to draw emphasis to this guide being vendor agnostic is because there is nothing to sell you here. We will first and foremost always suggest the very best FREE training and resources that you can use to further your education, and we will show you the validity of these free resources as well. We will also provide optional PAID resources. Both FREE and PAID resources have been suggested by the community and approved by our staff to meet quality standards. What you will find different about this guide is how we actively engage with the information technology communities to gain an understanding of what they are currently experiencing and what may be required as the IT landscape expands day-to-day.
No bullshit. We want to come out of the gate with an understanding that this information was put together for you. As we delve deeper into this guide you will find that we are going to be completely honest, transparent, and authentic (no bullshit).
Wait but I know you are saying this can’t be true, your company sells training! Yes, that’s true, but we proudly suck at capitalism, and you will also hear us discuss all of the pros and even the cons of some of the most popular and well-known training organizations, education systems, certification vendors, and any other training organizations as well. In this guide, you find us suggesting other vendors and even, dare I say, our “competitors” to show you how much more we suck at capitalism.
Not only is this guide FREE, but we are also saying, “Hey go check out these other guys.” the ONLY single course we are going to share with you is John Strands FREE SOC core skills course; we’re told that we should tell you that it’s Pay What You Can, but that also all means maybe all you can afford is “free-ninety-nine”. Otherwise, this guide has been developed in partnership with the IT community, and all of the resources are voted on and approved by entry-level to 40+ year IT veterans to meet the quality and standards of respected organizations from all over the world. (this absolutely needs to be worded better - but hopefully the overall message comes across???)
Updated as Needed (Frequently)
This guide will be updated as the IT industry grows, expands, shifts, and develops in ways we haven’t even thought of yet. This means that this guide will be updated frequently so you will be provided with the most accurate and up-to-date information that we can.
This is important to us because we want you to be successful and to be successful you need to find the best ways to gather the knowledge to achieve your success.
